A couple of kilowatts randomly appearing in the wires as a signal from passing UFOs does not allow us to look confidently into the future. Not even in the next 15 minutes.

It's been a year since our family has been living in the dacha — a wooden vacation house with a bathhouse by the forest. And everything could have been fine if there were no electricity issues. A couple of kilowatts randomly appearing in the wires as a signal from passing UFOs does not allow us to look confidently into the future. Not even in the next 15 minutes.

So, the patresfamilias, aka the Engineer, aka the Innovator and progressive IT guy decided to install solar panels, which would make our house energy-independent, carbon-friendly and eco-friendly. Another perk would be that the kettle wouldn't force the plug out and the gasoline generator would sink into oblivion.
That's how the construction of the 10,000-watt solar power plant began.
First thing to do was to choose a place (although "choose" is a rather strong word as there was not enough room for a proper choice).

Then we did a drawing of the props for the panels. While drawing, I realized that it was unwise to occupy a whole hundred square meters with equipment and decided to make a pavilion, on the roof of which the solar panels would be placed. Two birds with one stone. Both energy and a summer patio.

Actually, all my projects got a peculiarity — they increase apace. In this specific case, the pavilion came first, and later I thought it would be a good idea to put a stove there to bake pies and placinta. Then, during the construction, I came up with an insane idea to make a double stove: a classic one on one side, and a round pizza oven on the other.

All right. So, we put together some concrete, a wooden frame on top and piles of bricks.
As always, kids were in the middle of the action, helping their parents. Or thinking that they were helping. Nevertheless, it is always a pleasure to watch your offspring help.
As for the roof material, there was no doubt about it. We decided to make a thatched roof, just like in the bathhouse. This was probably the first structure with solar panels laid on a reed roof. Times and technologies got connected.

Next step was installing the brick oven. I surfed the Internet, read how to make a true Italian pizza oven, hired an oven builder, and we began making an unusual oven that I never used later in life.
And a couple of weeks later our oven was ready, tested and waiting to feed our family and friends with delicious treats. I remember Vika cooked placinta stuffed with cherry and cottage cheese for the occasion. Finger-licking!

But that's not all, we wanted some beauty. Vika and I love stones, so we had a long time to choose the stones that would fit well with our pizza oven.

In the end we chose the same stone as in the steam room, clad it on both sides, then we peeled it off from the inside and clay-walled it. Exhausting job…
That's such a high-tech beauty we got. But we forgot why we wanted to build it.
The panels themselves can't boil water. You need batteries and a controller. You bring the wires from the roof right down to the basement, connect all the smart appliances, the batteries, and…
Revelatory moment! It's night outside but in our house the lights are on.

Absolutely free of charge. Or better say, relatively free of charge, since the equipment cost 10,000 Euros.

Oh, how proud I was for being able to such a cutting-edge system. Then I had no idea what a truly daunting task the solar panels would prove. But that's another story. The party is on!

We used the brick remnants to build a fireplace, where we would sit around the fire and chat, drinking tea on summer nights.
And the house was lit by the warm light that our power plant had collected from the sun throughout the day.

All the bathhouses of the Woloshin banya resort are designed to the smallest detail and located in the bosom of nature.

Each of them is a unique experience of purification of body and spirit, immersion in yourself. This is how we make you fall in love with bathing and give you warmth.
