Children and the Bathhouse: Benefits, Rules, and Healthy Habits
The bathhouse can become a wonderful and beneficial tradition for children, contributing to their health and development. However, for a visit to the steam room to bring only benefits, it is important to observe certain rules and take into account the child's age characteristics.
Benefits of the bathhouse for children:
Strengthening Immunity: Regular, but moderate, bath procedures train the body's thermoregulation, making it more resistant to colds and infections. Contrasting temperatures (the warmth of the steam room and a cool shower) contribute to hardening (toughening).
Skin Cleansing: Children's skin is very delicate and sensitive. Steam opens pores, helping to gently cleanse the skin of impurities and toxins, improving its breathing.
Relaxation and Stress Relief: Like adults, children are subject to stress. The warmth of the bathhouse helps relax muscles, relieve tension, and soothe the nervous system, contributing to improved sleep.
Improved Blood Circulation: The gentle warmth of the bathhouse stimulates blood flow, which positively affects the function of all organs and systems.
Instilling Healthy Habits: Joint visits to the bathhouse from childhood instill in the child an understanding of the importance of hygiene, body care, and a healthy lifestyle.
Family Traditions: Bathhouse day can become a wonderful family tradition, contributing to strengthening bonds and creating warm memories.
Rules for visiting the bathhouse with children:
Age: You can start visiting the bathhouse from 3-4 years old, when the child can already consciously follow simple instructions. However, even with toddlers, you can arrange a "mild" bath, if the temperature is comfortable and the stay time is minimal.
Temperature and Humidity: For children, the optimal temperature in the steam room is no higher than 60-70°C (140-158°F). The humidity should be moderate. Start on the lower benches, where the temperature is lower.
Time of Stay: The first visit to the steam room should not exceed 1-2 minutes. Gradually, the time can be increased to 5-7 minutes, but no longer. It's better to do several short sessions than one long one.
Preparation: Before the bath, the child should be fed, but not overeat. Be sure to bring a towel, a hat for the head (to avoid overheating), and rubber slippers.
Water: Before entering the steam room and after leaving it, be sure to give the child water or herbal tea. In the bathhouse, it's important to maintain hydration.
After the Steam Room: After leaving the steam room, offer the child a cool (not ice-cold!) shower or wipe them with a damp towel. Do not overdo the contrasts.
Well-being: Carefully monitor the child's well-being. At any signs of discomfort (dizziness, redness, nausea), immediately remove them from the steam room.
Games: Make bath day fun! You can play simple games, read books, or just chat.
